Job Title:  Pre-Apprenticeship Coordinator    

Reports to:  Center Manager

Position Classification:  Non-exempt        

Office Location: Kenosha serving Kenosha, Racine and Walworth Counties

Type: Full-time; this is position is grant funded for only 10 months, with the potential for an additional year of funding beyond that

 

Primary Objectives of Position:  Coordinate pre-apprenticeship activities within Southeastern Wisconsin to help build awareness and education for Registered Apprenticeship (RA) as a viable option into targeted occupations/careers. Act as a liaison between RA candidates and RA opportunities.  Reach out to the community and cultivate relationships with Registered Apprenticeship candidates (including in school and out of school youth), parents, and high school staff and attend community events to publicize RA opportunities.  Coordinate with Workforce System Business Services teams for business to business, chamber and employer group outreach to encourage additional employer sponsorship in RA.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Develop relationships with educational facilities to inform youth about RA opportunities.
  • Establish connections and rapport with High School Counselors, Liaisons, Teachers, Principals, Parents and other personnel as needed to identify and engage with youth regarding RA opportunities.
  • Develop rapport with youth to successfully engage in RA post high school.
  • Coordinate with Workforce Programs to educate job seekers on RA as a step towards a career in a targeted industry.
  • Coordinate with Business Services Teams to increase number of employers utilizing RA.
  • Design outreach materials for educational/awareness campaign.
  • Conduct outreach presentations as needed to high school students, parents, educators, etc. Organize venues, logistics and accommodations as needed.
  • Identify, develop, and implement strategic outreach and recruitment opportunities to ensure proper quantity and quality of talent is available to meet employer sponsor needs.
  • Coordinate pre-apprenticeship activities in various classroom formats, using relevant training materials and a variety of media to address the individual needs of learners.
  • Assist customers in accessing resources to secure a RA to attain self-sufficiency by providing relevant information and directing customers to services in an appropriate, timely and efficient manner.
  • Using computers and printed materials, assist customers in accessing websites and state systems for labor market information, relevant career information and other resource for developing job leads. Select or develop teaching aides, such as training handbooks, demonstrations models, multimedia visual aids, computer tutorials and reference works.
  • Establish and maintain knowledge of community and participate in community events and other activities including collaborative recruitment strategies with community partners to connect with apprenticeship candidates. This may require a weekend and evening work schedule.
  • Ensure that customer files and records are maintained in accordance with legal requirements and Company policies and procedures. Maintain process to measure outcomes and customer satisfaction and utilize the information to make recommendations on continuous improvement opportunities.

Physical Demands/Work Environment:  Physical requirements include carrying/lifting up to 5 pounds, frequently; up to 10 pounds, regularly; and up to 25 pounds, occasionally. Visual acuity, speech and hearing; hand and eye coordination and manual dexterity necessary to drive an automobile and operate computer keyboard and basic office equipment; subject to carrying, lifting, twisting and reaching to perform essential job functions.  Working conditions are primarily in an office environment with occasional travel to other locations.

Required Competencies:  Extreme Customer Service focus, learning orientation, communication proficiency, teamwork orientation, technical capacity.

 Qualifications:

Education:  Bachelor's Degree in related field or equivalent experience required.

Experience:  

Significant demonstrable experience in business-to-business marketing or work in a community-based organization.

Minimum of 2 years' customer service experience and two years' experience in training and public speaking for a diverse audience required. Ability to create or modify outreach and training material and develop practical application exercises related to required training material strongly preferred. Working knowledge of Workforce Service programs and the Apprenticeship System required. Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as proficient computer skills. Workforce Service experience or demonstrated ability to serve diverse populations required. Prefer working knowledge of all applicable local Workforce Service programs. Familiarity with applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations preferred. 

Skills/Abilities:

Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment with proven competency in handling stressful situations required. Ability to clearly and concisely communicate with community members, staff and leadership via presentations, in person, telephone, written and oral. Excellent verbal and written communication skills including ability to do public speaking and conduct outreach and training sessions. Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred. The ability to maintain confidentiality is a must.

Demonstrated ability to use various software programs (Microsoft Office) for correspondence, reports, statistical compilation, analysis and data base access.

Must be accustomed to working in a complex, fast-paced and confidential work environment. Ability to follow complex instructions, prioritize tasks, and effectively utilize resources to complete projects in a timely and accurate manner. Superior attention to detail is a must.

 Additional Requirements:  Must have valid driver's license, clean driving record and adequate vehicle insurance coverage.
